October 15, 2006                         Lego Land Deutschland in Gunzburg, Germany

We went to Lego Land and had so much fun!! Jerret was so exuberant that he would randomly jump for joy and literally squeal with happiness during the day : ).

It has 7 main areas to visit:

Luckily, we went there when they had a Halloween celebration going on. We took some pictures with witches when we first arrived on the grounds and there were Halloween decorations everywhere. Once and awhile we would spot a ghoul or creature going by. On the way to the castle there were stuffed witches flying above us on brooms and the castle was covered in cobwebs with pumpkins placed everywhere. Fun, fun, fun!

The first thing we did was to go on a Lego tilt-a-whirl, and then we went on the Lego roller coaster. There were Lego families with dogs, an old lady feeding the birds, an Einstein face who’s eyes moved, a man wading in water, etc. all over the park that were life size. Some of them actually made sounds as well. Oh yah, there were these dinosaurs barbecuing and smoke was coming off the grill.

We went to this 4D show that starred Lego people. It took place in a kingdom with a princess, a wizard, and an inventor. It was very well made and when it snowed in the movie they actually dropped snow confetti on us in the theater.

There was another roller coaster inside of the castle that shot out and then went back into it again. It was pitch black when you first started out inside of the castle, then these flashing lights came on, and the roller coaster dropped straight down. Very scary! The castle itself had Lego crests, knights and a sword-in-the-stone in the courtyard. It was very authentic. The log-ride was unique as well. You are floating along and then it turns around so you are facing backwards. You drop down unexpectedly and ride that way for a few minutes. The big drop at the end of that ride was so high that my stomach reached my throat! Believe it or not this log ride was scarier then Disneyland’s.

Another impressive area was the jungle safari ride with little jeeps. Jerret got a yellow one with black cheetah spots on it, but he really wanted the white one with zebra stripes. Each person gets to ride along and see all of the animals made of Lego. There were giraffes, elephants that shot water at you, alligators, lions, monkeys, and of course zebras.

Okay, there was this really weird hot-dog we had. The bun was like an enclosed sleeve around the hot-dog, but first they would squirt Catchup inside of the bun. Well of course the Catchup sat at the bottom inside, so by the time you ate down to it the liquid oozed out. Very gross.

The miniature land in the middle was cool. There were miniature areas built portraying Venice, Berlin, Frankfurt, Zürich airport, Switzerland, Neuschwanstein castle, etc. The Venice scene actually showed little gondola drivers moving through the canals and singing in Italian. The Neuschwanstein castle showed a cut out view of the throne room and there were little people dancing around inside. There was also a horse drawn carriage that actually moved up the steep road to the castle. There was also a little tram that actually moved up a mountain on a cable, so cute! A little amusement park had a working Ferris wheel and a ship ride.

One of Jerret’s favorite parts of Lego Land was the Lego factory. We watched a film on how they make Lego and then we went down into a mock factory. There were all different colors of pellets that they would melt down, and then they would turn it into different block shapes. As you left the factory you walked into a shop that had every shape and color of Lego known to man. This place was definitely Jerret’s fantasy come true.

The Lego store in the park was phenomenal! Jerret has been talking about this airport that he saw at his friends house in Kelowna. It was there along with 2 other kinds to choose from and it was on sale. Of course we bought that and an extra Lego airplane for him for Christmas.

That was the end of our fabulous day or as the Austrians like to say, “Super” or “Wunderbar”. We didn’t see everything, in fact we missed a whole section of the park! We’re buying a season’s pass next year, because they are always changing the themes and adding new movies and plays. It was another successful family day.
